iCarnegie Press Release

AMA Education System Announces 20,000 iCarnegie Course Enrollments for the Fall 2003 Debut of the Leading Software Development Curriculum

The AMA-iCarnegie Partnership Will Contribute Significantly to Philippine President Gloria Arroyo's Goals of Producing Larger Numbers of Highly-Skilled Information Technology Professionals

November 3, 2003 - PITTSBURGH, PA USA and PHILIPPINES - AMA Education System, the pioneer and largest IT-based education provider in Asia, and iCarnegie Inc., an educational affiliate of Carnegie Mellon University and provider of world-class software development curriculum, announce that of the 70,000 enrollments in AMA's campuses in the fall 2003 semester, the biggest percentage -- at 20,000 course enrollments -- falls under the iCarnegie program. This results from a successful launch of the iCarnegie curriculum program across the 42 AMA Computer University campuses in the Philippines and from the new AMA International University campus in Bahrain.

AMA's partnership with iCarnegie also addresses the challenge set by Philippine President Gloria Arroyo for the country to increase its number of highly skilled and certified information and communication technology professionals. The iCarnegie partnership, established in April 2003, allows AMA to contribute to those goals by quickly advancing the quality of its computer science education, as well as to fuel the institution's ability to meet its target of annually producing 10,000 students that have IT degrees and certifications.

“We anticipated there would be tremendous interest in the iCarnegie courses at AMA, because the program leverages the leading education in computer science and software engineering found at the world-renowned Carnegie Mellon University,” said Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V, founder and chairman of the AMA Education System. “In addition, the iCarnegie curriculum allows us to quickly advance the knowledge of our faculty and instructors, educate students that meet the needs of today's modern employers, and support our mission to be the leader and premier provider of holistic, relevant, high quality and globally recognized IT-based education.”

The iCarnegie 10-course curriculum and certifications are rooted deeply in the traditions of Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science, which is consistently ranked among the top programs in the world. The successful blend of principle and practice found in the iCarnegie coursework means that students taking the courses at AMA are building significant software applications, based on the modern computing practices found in today's working environments. Through the iCarnegie courses offered by AMA, students gain strong experience in advanced Java programming, object-oriented design, networks and system-level programming, database and e-commerce application development, and software management.

To support the teaching of the iCarnegie curriculum so that the highest standards are maintained, iCarnegie has trained 25 AMA master trainers who are in turn preparing 120 instructors to support the student demand for the iCarnegie courses. Students at AMA who complete the program and earn the iCarnegie Certification in Software Systems Development would obtain course credits at Carnegie Mellon University if they apply and are accepted by Carnegie Mellon for enrollment.

“AMA Education System has an excellent track record in IT education,” said iCarnegie Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Dr. Allan Fisher. “We are confident that our partnership with AMA will benefit students of all levels and backgrounds, and as a result, advance the competitiveness of the IT industry in the Philippines.”
